ParentCorps would like to thank the Manhattan Borough President’s Office for its generous donation of 75 Fresh Direct boxes for our school sites. With this donation, we were able to support families in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Manhattan who are struggling with food insecurity.

Over the past few months, Center for Early Childhood Health and Development staff, namely our team members leading ParentCorps’ randomized controlled trials and the ParentCorps family support group, have worked to understand our communities’ most urgent needs.

Through surveys, follow up calls, virtual programming for parents, and partnership with school sites, we identified rent relief and food insecurity as the two biggest challenges that families are currently facing. While this has historically been the case for many New Yorkers, the pandemic has only made an already difficult situation worse.

Across the city, city agencies and community organizations have partnered with Fresh Direct, food pantries, community gardens, and local restaurants to help feed New Yorkers. Thanks to human rights lawyer and activist Angela Fernandez, we connected with city officials at the Manhattan Borough President’s office and community organizers to do our part within these larger efforts.

"Thank you so much for your generosity. We have plenty of families in need. We are always looking for ways to support our families. This is a blessing," a parent coordinator said.

"I'm so grateful for this donation. This site already gives so much to its children and families and it felt really good to be able to support their efforts," a Friends School coach said.

We know that true solidarity only occurs when we build bridges. Our hope and goal is to work alongside the communities we serve to ensure that we are doing all that we can to get resources where they are most needed.
